JV boys take two

The Dawson County High School junior varsity boys basketball team improved its record to 6-0 last week.

The team traveled to play against Woody Gap and came away with a 45-30 win.

Later in the week, Coach Wes Greer's team faced off against West Forsyth at home and pulled out a close 31-29 victory.

In the game against Woody Gap, Brandon Abbott and JT Eggert led all scorers with 12 points each.

The Tigers never trailed in the ballgame after establishing an 8-7 lead after one quarter of play.

Dawson scored 13 points in the second quarter to take a 21-14 lead into halftime.

Greer's team outscored Woody Gap, 24-16, in the last two quarters to get the win.

Also scoring for Dawson County were: Cullen MacDonald with nine points, Cameron Hudson added five points, Tyler Palmer knocked in three points and Cole Mulberry, Brandon Abbott and Keaton Coates added two points each.

Dakota Etheridge led Woody Gap with 13 points.

Despite scoring only five points in the second half, the Tigers were able to hold West Forsyth on Thursday afternoon.

After one quarter the score was tied at 10-10. Dawson County's offense caught on fire in the second quarter and took a 26-15 halftime lead.

Greer's team had to rely on its defense over the final 14 minutes to come away with the win.

Levi Whitmire scored 11 points to lead all scorers.

Also scoring for Dawson County were: Terrell Dawson with six points, Steven Stanfill added five points, Abbott added four points, Eggert scored three points and MacDonald contributed with two points.

Ryan Soldano had nine points for West Forsyth.

The junior varsity team will not play again until Jan. 4. The team will travel to play East Hall High School.
