Ladies playing good defense

Senior point guard Carly Gilreath led the Dawson County Lady Tigers to three wins last week.

Gilreath scored 56 total points, an average of 18.7 points per game, in wins against Pinecrest Academy, 74-29, Schley County, 67-25, and Brookstone Academy, 69-25.

Coach Steve Sweat's team scored 210 points in the three games for a 70 points per game average.

On defense Dawson allowed 79 points, to come away with a 26.3 points per game average.

Dawson County improved to 7-1 overall.

At home Dec. 11 against Pinecrest Academy, the Lady Tigers jumped out to a dominating 32-18 lead after two quarters of play.

Dawson County's offense exploded in the third quarter for 32 points that put the game out of reach.

Dawson's defense was strong all evening and held Pinecrest to single digit scoring in three of the four quarters.

"I was really pleased with the way we came out for the second half and scored 32 points," said Sweat. "We played good defense all evening."

Putting up points for the Lady Tigers were: Karlie Bearden with 13 points, Sheyenne Seabolt added 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds, Ashley Parker scored nine points and Kacie Bearden had eight points.

Also scoring in the game for Dawson County: were Whitney Glover - six points, Alison Honea, Kenna Seitz, Hannah Porter and Allie Costley contributed two points each.

The team traveled to Pacelli High School on Friday and Saturday to play in the Columbus Showcase hosted by the school.

Dawson County had an easy time with their two tournament opponents, as Gilreath led the team with 20 points on Friday against Schley County and added 16 points against Brookstone Academy on Saturday afternoon.

Glover also had a strong showing on offense in the game against Schley County. She contributed nine points.

Against Brookstone, Parker and Costley both scored in double digits with 14 and 11 points respectively.

"I thought we had a good weekend trip to Columbus," Sweat said.

This week the Lady Tigers will play host to West Forsyth High.

The team will play at 7 p.m. Thursday at Dawson County High School.
