Grapplers compete in Dahlonega

Dawson County Park and Recreation's youth wrestling team, the John Wayne Corcoran Wrestling Association, had 20 wrestlers compete in 23 weight classes at the Dahlonega Goldmine tournament at Lumpkin County High School on Saturday.

Kincaid Schuette won tournament champion in the 8 and under, 65 pound weight class after wrestling his way through a 13 man bracket with two pins and a tech fall.

Jack Cupp also won tournament champion in the 12 and under, 120 pound weight class after pinning both of his opponents.

Anthony Corcoran finished the day with a second place finish in the 12 and under, 140 pound weight class and a third place finish in the 14 and under, 144 pound weight class.

Corcoran wrestled eight wrestlers between the two weight classes. He pinned three of his opponents.

Austin Kimbarl took home the second place medal for the 12 and under, 165 pound weight class, with a pin to his credit.

Colton Schuette fought his way through a 13 man bracket, pinning three opponents along the way, to finish the day with a third place finish in the 6 and under, 50 pound weight class.

Evon Fitts (12 and under, 70 pounds) and Samuel Tompkins (12 and under, 120 pounds) also went home with third place medals in their weight classes.

Julian Pressley (6 and under, 55 pounds) and Ashtyn Dowdle (6 and under, 60 pounds) both placed fourth in their brackets.

McCoy Daniel went home with two fourth place finishes in the 12 and under, 165 pound and 14 and under, 144 pound weight classes.

Casen Davenport (6 and under, 50 pound) pinned two opponents and River Parrish (10 and under, 60 pound) pinned one wrestler, but sadly neither placed in their brackets.

Declan Rhodes, Hadyn Savage, Hunter Bramer, Jordan Curtis, Riley Cleveland, Riley Grome, DJ Mitchell and Justin Butler also wrestled hard at the tournament.

The wrestlers earned a total of 66 team points.
