Santa Claus is coming to town

Tree lighting Friday, breakfast Saturday

POSTED: November 28, 2012 4:00 a.m.

Santa Claus is coming to town Friday night to help the city of Dawsonville light its grand Christmas tree.

Festivities, including carolers and dancers, are set for 5:30 p.m. at the Dawsonville Municipal Complex, followed later by the lighting of the 26-foot tree.

Mayor James Grogan invites the community to join in the holiday celebration.

"I would like to encourage all of our community to come out and enjoy the hot chocolate, apple cider, cloggers and of course the amazing Dawson County Chorale," he said. "There will also be special guest singers you will not want to miss."

Complimentary coffee, cocoa and cider, as well as a free photo with Santa, will be available. Additional photos can be purchased.

The jolly old elf is also scheduled to make an appearance Saturday morning at Rock Creek Park for his annual holiday breakfast.

Now in its fifth year, the event remains a popular attraction for the entire family, said organizer Buffie Hamil.

Hamil added that Santa is expected to arrive at the park by 7:45 a.m. for the breakfast, which lasts until 11 a.m. Admission is free.

Photos with Santa, horse-drawn carriage rides and live Christmas trees will also be available.

Breakfast and photo packages start at $5.

The initial sheet of photos will be ready to take home the day of the event. Additional photo packages will be available for purchase and mailed within 10 days.
