Dawson County High School Head Wrestling Coach Arron Haynes' team got off to a strong start on Saturday.

The Tigers wrestled in their first tournament of the year at West Hall High School - the sixth annual Spartan Slam.

Dawson County finished in third place behind Jefferson and Flowery Branch.

The Tigers defeated Lakeview-Ft. Oglethorpe, 66-18, Mount Vernon, 66-18, Whitewater, 45-36, before losing to Jefferson 66-12 and Flowery Branch, 59-20.

Also competing at the tournament were West Hall, Lumpkin County, Central Gwinnett, White County, Alpharetta and Lovett.

Tigers Evan Kells and Gavin Brown went undefeated with perfect 5-0 records.

Kells ended the tournament with four pins.

Up next for Dawson County will be a home match on Nov. 27 against Mount Pisgah and Towns County.

Both the varsity and the junior varsity teams will wrestle. The event will begin at 5 p.m.
