Playoffs begin Friday night

Tigers to match up against Lions

POSTED: November 13, 2012 4:30 p.m.

The Class AAA state football playoff game between Dawson County and St. Pius X High School will be Friday night.

Dawson County High School Head Football Coach Jeff Lee will take his 6-4 Dawson County Tigers, No. 4-seed in Region 7-AAA, to face the Golden Lion team.

Coach Paul Standard and his team sport an 8-2 record and a No. 1-seed in Region 6-AAA coming into the game.

St. Pius' only two losses this season were to Woodward Academy and Thomson.

The Golden Lions are averaging 31 points per game on offense, while giving up only 10 points on defense.

"St. Pius likes to run the option and veer on offense and they are very effective at what they do. St. Pius features their quarterback and fullback. Both of these players are very good at running the option. For us to be successful our defense has to find a way to slow down their running game," Lee said.

"On defense they will show multiple fronts and blitz a lot. St. Pius will have either a four-man or five-man front. They have good experience on that side of the ball," he added.

Lee advises all Tiger fans to get their tickets early for the game on Friday.

There is only one ticket booth at St. Pius and long lines are expected.

Also there are only 200 parking spaces on campus.

According to Standard, the spaces will fill up around 4:30 p.m.

There is a parking deck, recommended by the St. Pius coach, about a mile and a half away from campus.

There will be regular shuttle buses provided for transport to the stadium before, during and after the game. The shuttle will begin at 5:30 p.m.

To reach the parking deck, take I-85 South to Exit 93. This is the Shallowford Road exit.

Proceed across Shallowford onto an access road for about 1.5 miles. Highwoods Properties, which is located before Century Center, is the parking lot for the shuttle service. There will be signs leading fans to this point.

"The stadium at St. Pius will seat around 5,000 people," Lee said. "Get there early and buy your tickets in advance."

Presale tickets will available at Dawson County High School through Friday's game. The Tigers have been allotted only 500 tickets for the game.

Admission, as set by the Georgia High School Association, will be $10.

A huge crowd is expected for the first round match-up. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
