Pheasant shoot raises funds for Lanier Tech

POSTED: October 31, 2012 4:00 a.m.

The Lanier Technical College Foundation announced it raised more than $22,000 following its second annual Pheasant Shoot earlier this month.

All proceeds from the Oct. 13 pheasant shoot go to benefit the Lanier Technical College Foundation's General Scholarship Fund.

The event, held at Jim Walter's Farm in Lula, sold out all 40 of its allotted shooter spots and had more than 30 community sponsors/partners to make the event one of the college's most successful fundraising events in its history.

"We are extremely proud of the community support shown for this event in our second year," said Lanier Technical College President Russell Vandiver. "With the changes in what financial aid programs will pay for and the cost of attending college rising, the role of the foundation and private, community support will continue to play a vital part in helping students pay for college."

The mission of Lanier Technical College is workforce development.

With more than 3,200 jobs added in the college's service area since 2011, it is vital that Lanier Tech be able to provide job training and a skilled workforce to fill employers' needs.

During the 2011-12 academic year, the Lanier Technical College Foundation awarded 283 students a total of $113,591 in scholarships.
