The Dawson County High School junior varsity football team improved its record to 3-4 with a convincing 42-0 win over Fannin County last week at Tiger Stadium.

Freshman running back Logan Hurst had a huge game. Hurst had four rushing touchdowns and two, 2-point conversions in the Oct. 18 win.

Hurst scored the first touchdown after defensive teammate Kyle Hayes recovered a Fannin fumble.

The 2-point conversion was good and gave Dawson County an 8-0 lead in the first quarter.

The second touchdown was scored by Zach Lane with 7:57 left in the second quarter.

Brody Chester converted the 2-point attempt to give the Tigers a 16-0 advantage.

With 48 seconds left in the first half, Logan Hurst scored the Tigers third touchdown.

Dawson held a commanding 22-0 lead at halftime.

"Quarterback Zach Buchan and running back Levi Whitmire also had a good day on offense," said coach Mark Thomason.

On defense, Jacob Lively intercepted a Rebel pass for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

The interception was Lively's third to result in a touchdown this season.

Also playing well on defense were defensive linemen Brenden Capps and Brett Whale, according to Thomason.

Up next for the Tigers will be a trip to Ellijay to face a tough Gilmer County High School team.

Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
