JV team drops game to Pickens County

The Dawson County High School junior varsity football team dropped a 30-0 decision at Pickens County High School on Oct. 11.

With the loss, the team fell to 2-3 overall.

Things got off to a rocky start for the Tigers last week.

Pickens opened the game with a long drive that consumed more than 6 minutes of the first quarter.

The drive resulted in a 3-yard touchdown run by the Dragons quarterback. The 2-point conversion was good and Pickens held an 8-0 lead with 3:35 remaining.

Dawson County picked up two first downs on the ensuing possession but turned the ball over on a fumble at the 42-yardline.

Pickens made the Tigers pay for the hiccup.

The Dragons scored a second touchdown from 3-yards out. The 2-point conversion was good and Pickens held a 16-0 advantage.

After a three and out, Pickens hit a streaking wide receiver for a 79-yard touchdown.

This time the 2-point attempt was not good. Pickens led 22-0 with 2:13 left in the second quarter.

The Dragons' defense forced Dawson to punt.

Dawson's defense came up strong and forced an interception by defensive back Levi Whitmire as the buzzer sounded for halftime.

It was a defensive battle after halftime

Pickens added one more touchdown, on a 28-yard pass, before the final whistle sounded.

Up next for the Tigers will be Fannin County at 5 p.m. Thursday at home.
