Dawson County softball is currently ranked No. 4 in Class AAA as voted on in the coaches poll. The Lady Tigers moved up two spots from No. 6 in last week's voting.

Head coach Jimmy Pruett's team has a hard road ahead of them with games at No. 1-ranked Buford, 17-1, Tuesday and a home game against a talented West Hall team on Thursday. Both are Region 7-AAA games.

Last week Dawson County was 2-1 with wins over No. 10-ranked in Class AAA, Fannin, by a close 7-6 score.

The team followed that with a 5-3 win over White County on Thursday.

The team's only loss came at the hands of No. 2-ranked in Class AA, Union County, on Monday by a score of 5-2.

Dawson now posts a 12-6-1 record.

The team's score against Buford was not available as of press time.

In the Fannin game, pitcher Martie Rogers recorded the win in relief of starter Jenna Abbott.

Abbott pitched the first four innings and recorded five strike outs.

Rogers got the win with three innings of relief. Rogers also struck out five in the game.

It was an exciting matchup as Dawson pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to get the victory.

A dropped third strike with a runner on second led to the win.

On the error by the Fannin catcher, Natalie Burt, ran to first base and collided with the Lady Rebel player. With the catcher up the line, trying to make a play on Burt, Lady Tiger Emily Hunsucker scored.

One of the highlights of the game was a 3-run double by Rogers in the third inning.

On offense, the Tigers had five hits. The Lady Rebel pitcher walked eight batters. The team intentionally walked Abbott all four of her at-bats.

Against White County, strong defense and timely hitting notched another Region 7-AAA win for the Lady Tigers.

Abbott picked up the win with four strong innings. She recorded seven strikeouts. Rogers once again came on in relief and picked up three strikeouts in three innings of work.

Carly Gilreath and Tabitha Morrison had a big day at the plate. Morrison went a perfect 3-for-3, while Gilreath was 3-for-4 on offense.

Abbott and Hunsucker both had two hits for the Lady Tigers in the win.
