GOP headquarters opening downtown

POSTED: September 19, 2012 4:00 a.m.

The Dawson County Republican Party will kick-off the 2012 election campaign at its new headquarters in downtown Dawsonville.

The group leased the historic Harben Brothers Service Station off the town square through the fall.

"Our party is excited about having a headquarters so centrally located in downtown Dawsonville," said Clint Bearden, party chairman.

Bearden said while he believes that Mitt Romney will win Dawson County and the state of Georgia "fairly easily," the new headquarters offers local residents the opportunity to make an impact on the election.

"To most in our group, this is one of the most important elections in memory and we want to make sure that we support our Republican candidates," he said.

"The headquarters will allow us to have a location where our county's residents can come and pick up signs and bumper stickers, but more importantly it will also be a central location that our party and other like-minded conservative groups and individuals can use to help make phone calls to many of the swing states."

The first meeting at the new headquarters is at 7 p.m. Sept. 25. Georgia's Agricultural Commissioner Gary Black is scheduled as the guest speaker.
