Two schools separated by just under six miles got together on Friday afternoon for an annual rivalry softball game. The Dawson County Middle School Lady Tiger softball team traveled to neighboring Riverview Middle for a region match-up.

Both teams came into the game needing a win.

Coach Jeff Compton's Lady Eagles and Coach Jessi Crane's Lady Tigers had both started the season winless.

This time it would be the Lady Eagles who came out on top. The team scored runs in every inning except the second to come away with the 10-0 win.

Riverview scored two runs in the first inning, three in the third inning, and five runs in the fourth and final inning to get the team's first victory of the season. The game was shortened due to the 10-run mercy rule.

"The Eagles played softball the way I know they can play. I believe this win will give the Eagles the confidence to perform much better the remainder of the season. I am so proud of each player on the team. Every player on the Eagles roster contributed to the win on Friday," Compton said.

Crane said practice will be the key to her team rebounding.

"If we can practice hard we can come back and win games this season. Our girls have to give it their all every game," she said.

The two teams will play each other again on Sept. 20 at Dawson County Middle.
