After playing 11 games in just a week and a half, the Dawson County Lady Tigers softball team played one game last week. The team faced off against another quality opponent in Mt. Pisgah Christian.

The Lady Patriots are currently ranked No. 2 in Class A with a 5-3 record.

Earlier this season, head coach Haley Brooks' team defeated Dawson County 14-6.

This game was much different. This time the Lady Tigers kept the game exciting down to the last at bat, before falling 6-4.

With the loss Dawson County is currently 7-5-1 on the season.

"This may be one of the best teams we have played this season so far," said head coach Jimmy Pruett.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 advantage after three innings of play.

In the bottom of the first inning, Dawson tallied its first run.

Junior Martie Rogers walked with one out. Jenna Abbott then doubled to left center to put runners on second and third. Samantha Moulder grounded to short, scoring Rogers.

Pruett's team scored two more runs in the second inning.

Emily Hunsucker was hit by a pitch to start the inning. With two outs Dawson got an infield single by Tabitha Morrison, a single by Carly Gilreath and Rogers, and Abbott reached on an error by the Lady Patriot shortstop.

Scoring on these plays were Hunsucker and Morrison to make the score 3-0.

Abbott held Mt. Pisgah scoreless after three innings on the mound.

After the third, Pruett pulled Abbott from the game. She is only pitching three innings at a time currently in order to rest a sore shoulder.

"I thought we hit the ball better this time against them, Mt. Pisgah. When we get everybody well we will be OK," Pruett said.

As of Monday afternoon, Dawson County is currently ranked No. 6 in Class AAA.

Mt. Pisgah scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 4-3 lead.

Dawson started Region 7-AAA play Tuesday with a game against North Hall. Scores were unavailable at press time.

On Thursday, the Lady Tigers will play their second region game of the season. The team will host Banks County. First pitch is set for 5:55 p.m.
