The Riverview Middle School softball team dropped its first two games this season at Pickens Middle lost Tuesday and then at home with Clear Creek on Friday.

The Lady Eagles are currently 0-2 on the season.

Up next for Riverview will be an away game against Jasper Middle on Friday.

Game time will be at 4:30 p.m..

"Being the first game, I believe the players were a little nervous," said head coach Jeff Compton.

Pickens Middle jumped out to a 9-0 second inning lead, but Riverview fought back.

The Lady Eagles scored two runs in the third inning to close the margin to 9-2. Riverview added two more runs in the third inning to make the score 9-4.

Pickens scored two more runs to make the final 11-4.

"I am very proud of the team for staying focused. I am really excited about our season. I see great success for the Eagles. All our players did very well," Compton said.

A controversial call caused Riverview to fall behind 3-0 in the first inning to a very good Clear Creek team on Friday.

The Lady Eagles cut the score to 8-4 later in the game, but couldn't overcome the early deficit to lose 11-4 to the Lady Bobcats.

"I am disappointed in our performance on Friday. The team makes the routine plays during practice. Being able to execute offensively and defensively during games is when it matters most; however, we had several good innings of play, which I am very proud of," Compton said.

Compton said his team will work on fundamentals and building confidence this week.

"We are going to work on building the confidence to make the fundamental plays during game time. I am still confident that the Eagles will perform much better as the season progresses," he said.
