Team has tough week

POSTED: August 21, 2012 4:20 p.m.

It was a tough opening week for the Dawson County Middle School softball team.

The Lady Tigers dropped a 15-0 decision to Clear Creek on Tuesday and fell 14-0 to Jasper Middle on Friday.

With the two losses Dawson County is 0-2 on the young season.

"We still have a lot of work to do with our hitting. We made a few errors, but those can be fixed. Overall I am proud of the girls for giving me all they had," said head coach Jessi Crane.

Errors caused the Lady Tigers to fall behind early against Jasper on Friday.

The Nettes jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back against Crane's team.

"I don't think the girls' heads were in the game," Crane said. "We made too many defensive errors. The girls need more confidence in themselves. I know they have the potential to do much better than this. If we can play like we practice we will win games."

According to Crane, her team is fairly young and some of them are just learning the game.

There are 14 girls on this year's roster. Pitching for Dawson is eighth grader Sydney McGinnis.

Behind the plate is another eighth grader, Kaila Billingsley.
Playing in the infield to begin the season are: Lacy Mills at first base, Ashton Bryant and Karley Davenport will share time at second base. Playing shortstop will be Jenna Lancaster. At third base will be Natalie Glass.

Manning the outfield positions will be Carrie McPherson, Heidi Collett, Caroline Collett, Elizabeth Morris, Malia Billingsley, Karleigh Thurmond and Lauryn Antoun.

Up this week for Dawson County will be an away game at Fannin County on Friday. First pitch will be at 4:30 p.m.
