Memorial ride set for Saturday

Proceeds benefit brothers killed on Lanier

POSTED: August 8, 2012 4:00 a.m.

Area sheriff's deputies are showing their support for the family of two brothers killed on Lake Lanier earlier this summer with a benefit memorial ride and car show Saturday.

The Dawson County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the Hall, Lumpkin and Forsyth County sheriff's offices, invites the community to participate in the Griffin and Jake Prince Memorial Ride and Classic Car Cruise-In.

The ride, which travels around Lake Lanier, is set to leave the Lumpkin County Courthouse at 11:15 a.m., headed toward Gainesville, across Buford Dam, into the city of Cumming and end in Dawsonville at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame.

Registration is from 9 to 11 a.m. the day of the event. The cost is $40 per bike.

Vendors will begin setting up at 1 p.m. at the hall of fame, which will also include activities such as inflatables and face painting for the kids.

Lunch will be provided by the Dawsonville Pool Room.

Live music by the Brian Jarrett Band and the classic car cruise-in also start at 1 p.m. There is a $20 minimum donation for the cruise-in with all proceeds from the entire event going to help the family offset the boys' funeral expenses.

Thirteen-year-old Griffin Prince and brother Jake, 9, were killed when the family's pontoon boat was struck by a second vessel.

"This is a family event for all to enjoy," said Dawson County Sheriff's Lt. Doug Boyle, organizer. "Please come on out and show your support to the Prince family. If you are out and about and the ride passes by you, let us know your support and wave at the procession."

A rain date has been set for Sept. 1.
