Dawson County cheerleaders, led by coach Keely Amos, took part in two camps at Rock Creek Park last week.

The camps were designed to give future cheerleaders of Dawson County a glimpse into what it is like to be a cheerleader at the middle school and high school level.

Amos, along with help from varsity and middle school cheerleaders, taught the campers the basic skills and proper techniques of cheerleading.

The first camp began on July 23 and was open for girls ages 9-12. Instructors in the age group were the Lady Tiger varsity football cheerleaders with guidance from Amos.

Eleven campers attended the three day event.

"Each camper learned a dance and new cheers, and also participated in a stunting and jumps workshop," Amos said.

The campers helped put together a routine that included a pyramid, a dance, and three new cheers. On the third day of camp, the girls performed the routine for their parents and were awarded with goodie bags and certificates.

On July 26 the Dawson County Middle School football and basketball cheerleaders began camp for girls ages 5-8. The student instructors taught the campers a new dance, a cheer, tumbling, jumps and different types of stunting.

There were more than 30 campers in attendance at the camp. At the end of camp on Friday, participants were awarded with goodie bags and certificates.

"We will host another instructional camp in the Fall of this year. Please look for more information about this camp," Amos said.
